First batch of forty books arrived…

The wife hasn’t become an overnight celebrity, despite her signing an exclusivity contract with a press agency. The journalist with whom we are connected has been on leave, and remains on leave until tomorrow (Monday 7th September). I hope she comes back. It’s been such a long time since our exposure in the Welsh national press that we feel that it has all died down now for good. I barely even think about it now. But we also have to be prepared for the possibility of more media coverage in the coming weeks, with the possibility of things kicking off in a big way. Only time will tell, but I am treating it as if it is not going to happen for now.

My first batch of 40 books has arrived. The plan is to sell 20 privately, with the proceeds going towards free books and postage to organisations that could help to promote the book, such as newspapers for book reviews. Today I rang around some of the national papers, but other than one (The Daily Mail who took my details), I was advised to ring back tomorrow because the relevant departments don’t work weekends. However, amongst all of this, I have decided to go straight for the bullseye. I live about 20 miles from Hay-on-Wye, the venue of one of the world’s biggest book festivals. I have been in touch with someone involved in the annual event who wants to see my book, so half an hour ago I walked down to the village postbox and obliged.

In the meantime, I’ve been busy gathering followers on Twitter – in excess of 10,000 now. Many of my Facebook friends want copies from me privately. Although sales are still not high, they are coming in in dribs and drabs (both e-books and paperbacks), and people are beginning to talk about it.

That is the key – getting people to talk about it.
